Digital ruble

A digital form of the Russian ruble issued by the Bank of Russia. Cash, bank-account money, and digital rubles are forms of the same national currency; one digital ruble is equivalent to one ruble.

Digital-ruble platform

Bank of Russia infrastructure on which digital-ruble accounts are opened and operations are processed. Users gain access through a connected bank.

Cryptocurrency

Within DigitalRUR, a digital currency that is not the digital ruble. The Bank of Russia distinguishes cryptocurrency, which has no single state issuer, from the digital ruble as a form of national currency.

Legal stage

  • introduced — a bill has been registered;
  • passed by the State Duma — lower-house consideration is complete;
  • approved by the Federation Council — the upper-house stage is complete;
  • signed — the President has signed the act;
  • officially published — the act appears in the designated official source;
  • effective — the rule applies according to the act's commencement provisions.
